How We Started

We were paired up with 4 random individuals from engineers to data scientists to solve a common problem that effects our demographic through the Wonsulting Project 2020 Program.

Our team comprised of college students nearing towards graduation and/or looking to start  full-time careers. We started brainstorming on what frustrates us and our peers during the job application process.

The Problem

Our biggest takeaway from our team observations are the massive amount of different type of resumes and cover letters we make to cater to each role/company. As well as the external resources such as webpages or interview preparation materials we save for each role/company as well.

Our Goal

Confirm our problem statement through qualitative user-research and create a solution to eliminate common user frustrations with job application organization.

Define Our Observations

Our team had to confirm our frustrations through a google survey sent to our user demographic and their problems to identify possible solutions to eliminate user frustrations defined by our data-backed observations and assumptions through a series of questions.

1. Our team discovered through 96 participants on the survey that job applicants file their resume (57%) by specific company

2. Our team also discovered through 96 participants on the survey that job applicants file their cover letters (72%) by specific company.

3. Another key data point is that 75% of the survey participants answered that they bookmark webpages that are relevant to the role or company that they are applying for.

What We Learned

Competitive UX Analysis

Our idea of a solution closely resembled Google Drive which has the strongest UX capabilities for a folder organizer but took a deeper study on how certain Google Drive weaknesses can be an opportunity for a solution for job application files and organization.

Ideation & Iteration

As a Lead UX/UI Designer, our solutions had to reflect on the user-survey data.

Low- Fidelity Wireframes

Homepage
Ideated cloud based system with folder being labeled by the specific company the user is applying to.
Inside Folder
Each folder will contain the materials the users catered for the company's job application
Webpage Upload Function
Due to users need being able to upload a webpage resource by pasting in the URL and choosing where to upload.

High-Fidelity Wireframes

In response to the Main Homepage low-fidelity wireframe, users are able to create a new folder by company name and enter into materials they use to apply for the company's position. This design is in response to the majority of users organizing their job application materials by company

When users select "New Folder" they are able to enter in the company they are applying for to label their folder.

Users can also upload the file and choose the file type: "resume", "cover letter", or "web page". Also being able to add to a pre-existing folder to create an efficient filing of job application materials.

Inside the folder you are able to upload a new file by file type and instantly upload a webpage through a URL.
